Chin Enhancement/Reshaping

The chin and lower jaw is essential to an aesthetically pleasing profile. Many patients will have a recessive chin or lack of proper protrusion of the chin. At the initial office visit Dr. Lee will evaluate your profile and facial appearance and may obtain special x-rays and photo in order to properly diagnosis the problem. Surgery to improve the shape and size or the chin includes chin augmentation and genioplasty.

Genioplasty involves reshaping the chin to give it a more natural appearance. Chin augmentation involves adding to the pre-existing chin with different implants made up of gortex, medpor or silicone.

The Procedure:

Surgery is performed with IV sedation in our surgical center. The procedure is performed either through an incision through the mouth or one under the chin depending what type of augmentation or reshaping procedure is performed. Some times the chin augmentation or genioplasty is performed with other procedure such as a neck lift or face-lift. Following the surgery a dressing (jaw bra) will be placed around the chin and face to support the area. The doctor will have you wear this for approximately 5-7 days but swelling will not resolve totally for some time after the surgery. Final results and outcome should not be expected until at least 6 months after surgery. Eating after the surgery is clear liquids for the first 24 hours and than soft foods that do not require a lot of chewing for the next 4-5 days. If you feel you are a candidate for the procedure please do not hesitate and call our office for a consultation.
